FORTRON® PPS Polyphenylene Sulfide: If your design challenges include high temperature stability, extensive chemical resistance, high stiffness, high strength, and creep resistance at high temperatures, Fortron® PPS is an ideal choice. This high-temperature resistant linear PPS offers excellent dimensional stability, self-flame retardant properties, and outstanding chemical solvent resistance.
PPS is insoluble in any known solvent below 200℃ and demonstrates excellent stability in both conventional and alternative automotive fuels. Fortron® PPS includes standard injection molding grades for glass fiber and mineral enhancement, as well as glass fiber/mineral blend enhancement. The product line also features numerous special grades with lubrication modification, low warping, fast molding, and other performance improvements.
Several Fortron® PPS grades meet ISO10993 and US Pharmacopoeia (USP) VI standards and are listed in the US Drug Master File (DMF 14844) and the US Medical Device Master File (MAF 1097). These grades also comply with European Directive 2002/72/EC on food exposure and BfR (Federal German Institute of Risk Assessment) standards.
Fortron® products are designated for use in a wide range of injection molding applications, including:
Fortron® PPS is also a preferred material for fuel cells and diesel vehicles, as it can produce membranes and composites through extrusion and blow molding processes. Linear Fortron® PPS can create molten non-woven fabric using melt blowing and spinning bonding techniques. Fibers and fiber monofilaments produced from Fortron® PPS are used for weaving transmission belts, flame retardant fabrics, and filter carriers.
Non-filled, high viscosity Fortron® PPS products are available for extrusion and molding processes to produce slabs, rods, and other billets, typically used for sample processing.
Fortron 1140L4 is a 40% glass-reinforced grade that offers superior strength and toughness. It exhibits excellent heat and chemical resistance, good electrical properties, and inherent flame-retardant characteristics. The material maintains high hardness and rigidity at elevated temperatures, providing excellent load bearing performance. Good weldability is achieved through modest filler levels.
Typical Applications: Electrical components (bobbins, lamp housings, brush holders) and various other components requiring strength and resistance to aggressive chemicals, including automotive heaters, pumps, valves, fuel rails, microwave oven rings, and distillation column packings.
