Fortron® PPS is a high-temperature resistant linear PPS material designed for applications requiring exceptional thermal stability, extensive chemical resistance, high stiffness, superior strength, and excellent creep resistance at elevated temperatures.
Key characteristics include outstanding dimensional stability, inherent flame retardancy, and superior resistance to chemical solvents. PPS remains insoluble in any known solvent below 200℃ and demonstrates excellent stability in both conventional and alternative automotive fuels.
The product line includes standard injection molding grades with glass fiber and mineral reinforcement, as well as specialized formulations featuring lubrication modification, low warping characteristics, fast molding capabilities, and other performance enhancements. Selected Fortron® PPS grades comply with ISO10993, US Pharmacopoeia (USP) VI, and are documented in US Master File (DMF 14844) and US Medical Device Master File (MAF 1097). These grades also meet European Directive 2002/72/EC for food contact applications and BfR standards.
Fortron® products are specified for diverse injection molding applications including:
Fortron® PPS is also suitable for extrusion and blow molding processes, producing membranes and composites for advanced applications. The material can be processed using melt blowing and spinning bonding techniques to create molten non-woven fabrics, fibers, and monofilaments for weaving transmission belts, flame retardant fabrics, and filter carriers.
Fortron 1140L4 is a 40% glass-reinforced grade offering superior strength and toughness. This formulation provides excellent heat and chemical resistance, good electrical properties, and inherent flame-retardancy (UL94 V0). The material maintains high hardness and rigidity at elevated temperatures, ensuring reliable load-bearing performance. The moderate filler level enables good weldability.
Typical applications include electrical components (bobbins, lamp housings, brush holders) and various components requiring strength and resistance to aggressive chemicals, such as automotive heaters, pumps, valves, fuel rails, microwave oven rings, and distillation column packings.
