Product Description

FEP (fluorinated ethylene propylene) resins come in pellet form and offer flexibility designed to enhance coatings, melt extrusions, and impregnation. They work with conventional melt-extrusion techniques and injection-, compression-, transfer-, and blow-molding processes.

Processing Characteristics

A high melt strength and drawdown capacity facilitates the use of large dies and drawdown tooling to increase production rates. Using larger length-over-diameter extruder barrels provides enough residence time at high production rates to melt these high-temperature polymers. Reciprocating screw injection-molding machines are most effective. It's recommended that manufacturers use corrosion-resistant metals for any equipment that may contact molten resin.

Technical Properties

DuPont FEP 9495 is a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and hexafluoropropylene, without additives, that meets the requirements of ASTM D 2116 type II. With a relatively high melt flow rate and excellent electrical properties, this resin provides the electrical and mechanical properties needed for low voltage applications.

FEP 9495 combines the processing ease of conventional thermoplastics with many properties similar to those of polytetrafluoroethylene. Properly processed products provide superior properties including chemical inertness, exceptional dielectric properties, heat resistance, toughness and flexibility, low coefficient of friction, non-stick characteristics, negligible moisture absorption, low flammability, performance at temperature extremes, and excellent weather resistance.
